Prologue: Heaven’s Grand Boardroom
The massive heavenly boardroom stretched as
far as the eye could see, resembling a cosmic
stadium, but with a brilliance beyond mortal
comprehension. If it had walls, they were made of
light, and the seats—if they could be called that—
were more like clusters of radiant energy, with each
angel glowing in their assigned place. It was the kind
of setup where every member of the heavenly host
knew their role, yet today, even they seemed a little
on edge. After all, this was no ordinary meeting.
This was the meeting.
At the front of this divine assembly stood Jesus,
looking as composed as ever, casually twirling a
piece of chalk between His fingers. Behind Him
was the grandest chalkboard anyone had ever seen,
stretching across the horizon like an endless
backdrop of divine planning. To His right stood
the Holy Spirit, shimmering in an ethereal dance
of light and movement, and on His left, the Father
Himself, radiating with a presence so powerful that,
if this were anywhere but Heaven, the room might
have combusted into a puff of clouds. But, of course,
in Heaven, even combustion was peaceful—just a
gentle swirl of celestial vapors.
“So,” Jesus began, tapping the chalk on the board,
“let’s go over how all of this is going to go down.”
The angels were all in place, a hierarchy that was as
impressive as it was organized. Front and center, you
had the archangels: Michael, Heaven’s chief defender,
with the kind of no-nonsense aura that made even
the toughest cherubim sit up straight. Next to him,
Gabriel, the divine messenger, holding a scroll and
looking over it as if to double-check whether he’d need
to announce any key events soon. Further back, there
were the thrones, the dominions, the virtues, and all
the other angelic orders. It was a who’s-who of the
heavenly realm, each angel glowing with purpose.
“Well, first things first,” Jesus said, sketching a
basic outline on the chalkboard, “we’re going to
create the universe. Light, land, sea—you know the
drill.” He winked at the Holy Spirit, who swirled
in agreement, sending a gentle breeze through the
boardroom.
“The stars, planets, and all that good stuff come
after,” Jesus continued. “And here’s the fun part—
humans. They’re going to be in charge of the Earth,
and trust me, they’re going to need all the help they
can get. So, that’s where you all come in.”
An excited murmur passed through the crowd. The
angels, though perfect, were not without personality.
Gabriel raised an eyebrow as he scrolled through
his list. “I suppose I’ll be busy with announcements
soon,” he muttered to Michael, who simply nodded,
still scanning the horizon for any signs of rebellion.
“As long as Lucifer keeps quiet,” Michael grumbled.
And there was Lucifer, sitting in the back row, quietly
twirling his now less-lustrous wings, pretending not
to care. Michael glanced his way but said nothing.
“Now, before we get too far ahead,” Jesus said,
spinning around and eyeing the room, “let’s talk
about wings.”
Wings? That was a topic of debate. While artists
on Earth often painted angels with giant, feathered
wings, the reality was a bit more complex. If all
the angels in Heaven had wings that big, they’d be
bumping into each other constantly—chaos! “Let’s
just say,” Jesus continued with a chuckle, “wings
are optional. Some of you will get them, some
won’t, and for the record, the wings are more for
show anyway.”
The room erupted in laughter, a lighthearted moment
in the middle of this grand celestial planning. Michael,
always the serious one, gave a reluctant smile, while
Raphael, the angel of healing, nudged him. “Good
thing. Can you imagine all of us crammed in here
with full wingspan?” Raphael whispered. Michael
rolled his eyes but smiled nonetheless.
Jesus gave them a moment before turning back to
the board. “Okay, so once creation is underway,
we’ll be heading into some serious action. Adam
and Eve—our first human prototypes. Now, here’s
the kicker: they’re going to need free will. They’ll
have the choice to listen or... not.”
The Father nodded solemnly, a cloud of knowing
puffing gently beside Him. Even the Holy Spirit
paused its constant movement for a moment.
Everyone knew that the concept of free will would
lead to some bumps along the way.
“Yeah, yeah, we all know where that’s going,” Gabriel
chimed in, knowing full well he’d be delivering
plenty of news over the millennia. “But hey, that’s
what makes it interesting, right?”
Jesus nodded. “Exactly. Free will’s a tricky business,
but it’s necessary. They’ll make some good choices,
some bad ones, and that’s where you all come in.
We’ll have battles, messages to deliver, miracles,
and lots of redemption. You’ll all have your parts
to play.”
He stepped back from the board, admiring His work.
The outline was simple, but the plan was grand. He
drew a small figure at the bottom of the board and
labeled it Humanity, then a large arrow pointing
down labeled Messiah. “When all else fails,” He
said with a grin, “I’ll go in.”
The angels burst into applause, even Lucifer reluc-
tantly joined in, though his eyes glimmered with the
faintest trace of jealousy. Michael, always ready for
action, stood straighter at the mention of battles,
already mentally preparing for the war that was to
come against the rebellious angels.
“And now,” Jesus continued, clapping His hands and
dispersing the clouds of light that hovered nearby,
“let’s get this universe rolling!” The Holy Spirit gave
a final shimmer of approval, theFather’s gentle cloud
shifted slightly, as if smiling, and the angels began to
prepare for their roles. The heavenly host was ready.
Creation, redemption, and every divine plan in between
was about to unfold. With a final wink to the crowd,
Jesus turned to the chalkboard, underlining the words
at the top: Let there be light.
Chapter 1: Michael: The Ultimate Guardian of Heaven
Meet Michael, not your typical gentle, harp-
strumming angel, but Heaven’s formidable
bodyguard, more akin to an action hero. His
role? He’s tasked with protecting Heaven, thwarting
rebellions, and ensuring that divine plans proceed
flawlessly.
The story of Michael really unfolds when Lucifer,
once a celebrated angel himself, decides to overthrow
Heaven’s order. Revelation 12:7 recounts the intense
conflict: “War broke out in heaven. Michael and his
angels fought against the dragon (Satan).” Michael
decisively handled Lucifer, ejecting him and his rebel
angels from Heaven with swift precision, much like
a bouncer expelling unruly patrons from a club.
One moment Lucifer was ambitiously declaring his
ascent above God, and the next, he was plummeting
to Earth in total disarray.
Michael’s might is evident, but his true power lies in
his unwavering loyalty to God. Unlike Lucifer, who
sought glory, Michael operates without any desire
for the spotlight. He embodies the ultimate team
player, quietly and effectively executing his duties.
He’s likened to a celestial Navy SEAL, as Psalm
103:20 describes: “Bless the Lord, you His angels,
who excel in strength, who do His commandments.”
Michael doesn’t require dramatic entrances; he simply
appears, resolves crises, and departs. For instance,
in Daniel 10:13, when an angel struggles to deliver
a message due to interference from the “prince of Persia,”
Michael steps in to clear the path, ensuring the divine
message is delivered without further ado.
And when the ultimate showdown unfolds in
Revelation, Michael is at the forefront once again.
Revelation 12:9 highlights his role in banishing
Satan from Heaven definitively, showcasing his
signature move: the celestial expulsion. This isn’t
just a victory; it’s a demonstration of his role as
Heaven’s champion, reaffirming the security of the
divine realm. What truly sets Michael apart is his
humility. His name, meaning “Who is like God?”,
is a constant reminder of his purpose and loyalty.
Unlike Lucifer, who craved recognition, Michael’s
actions are for the glory of God, not personal fame.
So, when contemplating the grand narratives of good
versus evil, take comfort knowing Michael is a steadfast
protector on the side of good. He’s the archetype of a
guardian angel—strong, dedicated, and perpetually
ready for battle. With Michael as the defender, the
forces of darkness are invariably outmatched.
In cultural representations, Michael is often depicted
as a muscular warrior with a formidable sword,
capable of slicing through darkness itself. He doesn’t
just fulfill his role without question; he inspires
through his actions, which have been artistically
celebrated throughout the ages.
Though Michael doesn’t have a dedicated book
in the Bible, his appearances are impactful, always
occurring at pivotal moments. He’s not just a background
character; he’s a pivotal figure in the spiritual realm,
often intervening in critical situations as seen in Jude 1:9,
where he contends with the devil, simply stating,
“The Lord rebuke you,” emphasizing his reliance on
divine authority rather than his own strength.
Described as a “great prince who stands guard over
the sons of your people” in Daniel 12:1, Michael’s
role extends beyond the battlefield; he is a protector
of humanity, ensuring that the faithful are safe-guarded
during times of peril. His presence offers reassurance
that no matter the threats, celestial or otherwise,
we are watched over and protected.
As you explore the complexities of celestial battles
and divine guardianship, picture Michael not just as
a guardian but as a leader, ready to act with divine
force. His assurance, “Who is like God? No one, so
don’t even try,” encapsulates his mission: to serve,
protect, and embody the righteousness of Heaven’s
cause. With Michael in the celestial realm, good
isn’t just a hopeful stance; it’s an assured victory.
