Two Mountains, One Message

Let’s talk mountains.

In one corner, we’ve got Mount Sinai, where Moses climbs up, disappears into a cloud, and comes down with the Ten Commandments—God’s holy law, written on stone with divine firepower. In the other corner, we’ve got Jesus, standing on a nameless mountain in Galilee, surrounded by regular folks who probably forgot to pack a lunch. And He delivers what’s now called the Sermon on the Mount—the greatest sermon ever preached. And guess what? These two mountain moments are connected in a big, powerful, jaw-dropping way.

First, Moses and the Mountain Meltdown

Moses goes up Mount Sinai, gets the Ten Commandments from God Himself—like the original download straight from heaven—and what happens when he comes back down?People are partying around a golden cow. Dancing. Singing. Breaking commandments while they’re still warm.  So Moses does what any furious prophet would do: He throws the tablets. Shatters them. Holy stone shards go everywhere. That’s how badly we messed things up. Then Moses has to go back up for round two. That’s like breaking a brand-new iPhone on day one and hoping Apple doesn’t find out.

Now Enter Jesus, New Mountain, New Mission

Fast-forward centuries later. But this time—God doesn’t send someone up the mountain.
He comes down Himself. This isn’t just a prophet with a message. This is God in the flesh, walking around in sandals, ready to preach. It’s like the divine version of a Broadway entrance. Lights up. Curtain opens. The Author steps onto the stage.

Jesus climbs a mountain too.

But He’s not holding stone tablets. He’s holding truth—spoken straight from His mouth, and aimed right at our hearts. And He starts preaching things like:
   •   “You’ve heard it said, don’t murder… but I say, don’t even stay angry.”
   •   “You’ve heard it said, don’t commit adultery… but I say, don’t even think about it.”
Jesus wasn’t lowering the standard—He was raising it. The law said, “Don’t do it.”
Jesus said, “Don’t even want to do it.” Ouch.

So What’s the Point?

Moses brought the rules. Jesus revealed the heart behind the rules. Moses came down the mountain and got so upset, he busted the commandments. God looked down at the world and said, “That’s it. I’m coming down Myself.” And He did—as Jesus. And instead of breaking tablets this time, we broke Him. We nailed Him to a cross. But here’s the power: Jesus didn’t come to erase Moses’ law—He came to fulfill it. To show us that holiness isn’t just about behavior. It’s about the heart.

Two Mountains. One God. One Message.

God still wants our worship. He still hates golden calves. And He still loves us enough to come down the mountain in Person. The law told us what we should be. Jesus showed us how to get there—by following Him. And this time, God didn’t drop the message. He became the message.
