Good & Plenty

Whenever I think of Charlie Kirk, my mind doesn’t go to headlines or soundbites. It goes to something odd and funny from childhood: the Good & Plenty candy commercial. You remember it—those little pink-and-white licorice bites with the jingle that just stuck in your head. Somehow, when I think of Charlie, the jingle rewrites itself:

“Good and plenty, Charlie says… Love my good and plenty, Charlie says…”

It makes me laugh every time. Because it fits. Charlie lived with a kind of “good and plenty” spirit—plenty of boldness, plenty of courage, and plenty of love for the Lord. And beneath the humor, there’s a truth that steadies me. Charlie loved the Lord—that’s what he loved doing. For those who believe in God’s sovereignty, there’s comfort in knowing Charlie went home right on schedule. Not early, not late. The Lord called him at the appointed time, the same way He will call each of us.

It’s strange how a candy jingle can turn into a life reminder. But that’s the beauty of memory: God plants little hooks in our minds to keep us smiling even in grief. So when I think of Charlie, I’ll probably always hear that goofy Good & Plenty tune. And right after the smile, I’ll nod—because he really did leave us with plenty. Plenty of truth. Plenty of conviction. Plenty of love for God.

And now, as we continue to move forward—on and on and on—we carry that with us. Because that’s what Charlie would want, and that’s what the kingdom of God always does.
