GENGLRY: A License plate slap of conviction

Today, I did something I’ve never done before. I got a vanity plate. My wife and I were at the DMV renewing my tags, and somewhere between waiting in line and swearing I’d never come back, I had this great idea: “Why not get a custom plate?” Something meaningful. Something that points people to my mission. So I did. I proudly walked out of there with my new plate in hand: GENGLRY

Short for Genesis to Glory — the name of my website, my book series, my heartbeat, and my God-given assignment. I was feeling good. Until I wasn’t.

Because here’s what hit me in the parking lot like a Holy Spirit sucker punch: I had just finished reading Ecclesiastes. And what does Ecclesiastes open with? “Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.”

— Ecclesiastes 1:2 (ESV)

I’m not even joking. I stood there thinking about that vanity plate — the one that literally says GENGLRY — and suddenly I felt like Solomon himself was pointing a royal finger right at me. I mean, really? I just read a whole book about how meaningless worldly stuff is, and my big takeaway was: “You know what I need? A custom license plate!” Classic. Now don’t get me wrong — GENGLRY still stands for something eternal. It’s the journey from Genesis to Glory. It’s the big-picture story of God’s plan, and I’m grateful to play a part in it.

But still… the timing. The irony. The vanity. Let’s just say it was a humbling moment.
God’s got jokes, and I walked right into the punchline. So if you ever see a car with GENGLRY on the back, just know: It’s not just a plate.

It’s a walking sermon illustration. And a daily reminder that even when we’re trying to glorify God, He’s still working on keeping us humble.
