Feeling Lucky, Punk?

Let’s talk about luck. You’ve probably heard people say things like, “I’m just lucky, I guess!” or, “Wow, what a lucky break!” Maybe you’ve even said it yourself after finding twenty bucks in the dryer or hitting every green light on the way to work. But here’s the real deal: there’s no such thing as luck. Not in God’s world. Not even a little bit. Luck is what people say when they don’t know who’s actually running the show. Blessing is what it’s called when you do know.

All throughout Scripture, God makes it super clear that nothing — nothing — happens by accident. Proverbs 16:33 says, “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.” Translation? You can roll the dice, but God decides what they land on. Jesus backed this up too. In Luke 12:7, He said, “Even the hairs of your head are all numbered.” Think about that for a second: God knows how many hairs you have, and let’s be honest, that number changes every time you shampoo. If God’s paying attention to your hair count, He’s definitely not letting life be a random guessing game. You didn’t just “luck out” meeting that person who changed your life. You weren’t “in the right place at the right time” by accident. You were positioned. You were planted. You were sent. If you’re feeling like you’re “behind” in life — you’re not. If you’re feeling like you’re “way ahead” of everybody else — you’re not. You’re right where Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit want you to be. You’re moving through Their schedule, not yours. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says it best: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Not “for everything there is a lucky guess.” Not “for everything there is a random shot in the dark.” A season. A time. A plan.

Even the stuff that feels random — like running into an old friend at the grocery store — wasn’t random. God is weaving stories, moments, and miracles together all the time. You’re living inside a masterpiece, not scratching off a lottery ticket. So next time something “lucky” happens, don’t pat yourself on the back. Don’t tip your hat to chance. Tip it to the King of the Universe.  He’s the one calling the plays. You’re just the one getting to run around and enjoy the blessings. In fact, the only real “luck” you ever had was that God decided to love you before you even existed. Even that’s not luck — that’s pure, unstoppable grace.

Are you lucky? Nope. You’re blessed. On purpose. Right on time.

And exactly where you’re meant to be. And the same goes for the person who feels unlucky too. Maybe you’re thinking, “Story of my life. If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all!” Nope. God’s still got you. You’re not cursed — you’re just in the middle of a bigger blessing you haven’t unwrapped yet. Besides, if luck were real, half of us would still be stuck in traffic, holding a broken umbrella, and losing at rock-paper-scissors to a six-year-old. Thank God it’s grace running the show — not luck!

GG Moment: Keep walking by faith, not by four-leaf clovers.
